LEGAL PROTECTION OF NAME "REPUBLIKA SRPSKA"

BIJELJINA, JULY 15 /SRNA/ – On July 16, 2008, the Republika Srpska National Assembly adopted the Law protecting name "Republika Srpska".
Republika Srpska was established on January 9, 1992, as the Republic of the Serb People of BiH, based on the decision of the Assembly of the Serb People in BiH. Through the General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH, signed on November 21, 1995, Republika Srpska was internationally recognised as one of the two constituent entities of BiH. Due to ongoing attacks by Bosniak political circles in Sarajevo against the name "Republika Srpska," the National Assembly adopted the Law protecting its name in 2008.
