STIJELJA: PUNISH THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR BOMBING CIVILIANS ON PETROVAČKA ROAD

BOSANSKI PETROVAC, AUGUST 7 /SRNA/ - Savo Stijelja, a descendant of those killed in the crime committed by the Croatian army against Serb civilians on the Petrovačka Road in 1995, expects that those responsible for bombing the refugee convoy will be punished.

Stijelja, who is originally from Benkovac, stated that he was eight years old when the terrible crime on the Petrovačka Road occurred, so he considers it unacceptable that, after 30 years, the judiciary has still not ruled the perpetrators of the bombing of the civilian convoy guilty. He said that the memories of the Petrovačka Road from 30 years ago bring him sorrow, but that he does not hate anyone. "Being here after so many years brings sorrow, although I experienced all of it as a child and don't clearly remember all the images, but some things cannot be forgotten," Stijelja said to the press attending the commemoration marking 30 years since the exodus of Serbs from Republika Srpska Krajina and the memorial service for the victims killed in the Croatian Operation Storm on the Petrovačka Road in the village of Janjila. He adds he remembers getting out of the truck and seeing his father and grandfather, who got killed in a car from a shell. "My mother was wounded and passed away in Novi Sad after giving birth from the injuries," Stijelja said.
