ŽARKOVIĆ: EU REMAINING SILENT OVER USTASHA RAMPAGE IN CROATIA UNACCEPTABLE

BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 19 /SRNA/ – The head of the Association of Serbs expelled from Western Slavonia Krsta Žarković told SRNA that it is unacceptable for the European Union to remain silent in the face of the Ustasha rampage in Croatia, which is a full EU member, pointing out that such messages of hatred, the destruction of Orthodox cemeteries in that country and the FBiH, are signal to Serbs that their survival is impossible without pan-Serbian unity.

Žarković believes that the incident with hate messages directed at Serbs in the village of Glušci near Metković in Croatia could not have happened without the knowledge of Croatian authorities. He is convinced that the Croatian Ministry of Interior is not going to take any measures to find and punish the perpetrators. He assessed that this situation will persist until Serbs have a united political force that will begin the fight for their survival in this area. "Only the unity of Serbs, drawing the attention of the local and global public to all events that are harmful to Serbs, can preserve the Serb people in the lands they have lived for centuries," emphasized Žarković. In the village of Glušci near Metković, which is exclusively inhabited by Serbs, hate messages reading "kill Serb" and "ZDS", the abbreviation for the Ustasha-fascist salute "Za dom spremni" /For the Homeland – Ready!/ were sprayed on the asphalt during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, September 17 to 18. The same abbreviation was also written on a road sign to Glušci, while unknown individuals in a car shouted "kill Serb". The monument to fallen soldiers of the National Liberation War /NOR/ and civilian victims of World War II in the Serb returnee settlement of Baćevići near Mostar was found on September 8 covered in fascist symbols and the Ustasha salute "Za dom spremni! /For the Homeland – Ready!" which disturbed the local population. Last August, this memorial was also covered with Ustasha symbols, and children were attacked.
