RSA DISCOVERED SEVEN MASS GRAVES AND TEN CAMPS FOR SERBS AFTER ENTERING BROD
BROD, OCTOBER 7 /SRNA/ – Seven mass graves and ten detention camps were discovered after the Republika Srpska Army liberated the municipality of Brod 33 years ago; one of the graves, located at the town cemetery, contained the remains of 88 killed civilians and soldiers, said the president of the Municipal War Veterans’ Organization, Zoran Vidić.
Marking 33 years since the liberation of Brod in the Defensive–Patriotic War, Vidić remembered that units of the Republika Srpska Army entered Brod on October 6, 1992, and that General Slavko Lisica declared October 7 the Day of Liberation. According to Vidić, upon entering Brod they found scenes of great devastation and horror—destroyed infrastructure, private and state enterprises, and numerous camps and prisons run by Croatian-Muslim paramilitary formations. “Every single Serb house was burned down, except one in Liješće—number 108—symbolically matching the name of their enemy brigade from Slavonski Brod, which they deliberately left standing,” Vidić told reporters. He reminded that after the town’s liberation, seven mass graves and ten camps were discovered, the most sophisticated of which was located in the warehouse of a department store. Vidić noted that under the command of General Lisica, commander of Tactical Group Three, and a task force led by Mika Škorić, an intervention platoon of the Brod Battalion was designated to be the first to advance toward the town. “That’s how it happened, on October 4, the enemy line was broken at Hill 93, and within two days we managed to enter Brod,” Vidić said. He expressed gratitude to all soldiers who took part in the battles, as well as to the fallen soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army. A memorial service was held in Brod today for 244 soldiers who gave their lives for the liberation of the town and the creation of Republika Srpska, followed by the laying of wreaths at the memorial site. To mark the Day of Liberation, a ceremonial session was also held, during which the highest municipal awards were presented to the Acting Director of the Republika Srpska Memorial Center Denis Bojić and BiH Ambassador to China Siniša Berjan. The ceremony was attended by Republika Srpska Deputy Prime Minister Alen Šeranić.
