KOVAČEVIĆ: SRPSKA IS CREDIBLE PARTNER AMERICANS WANT TO ENGAGE WITH
BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 29 /SRNA/ – The lifting of US sanctions against the leadership of Republika Srpska was made possible by the arrival of Donald Trump’s administration, which has a more realistic understanding of the situation in the Balkans, especially in BiH, SNSD spokesman Radovan Kovačević has said.
"At no point did we ask for anyone to favor us, only for a fair approach, which has not existed until now", Kovačević stated. He reminded that the administrations of former US presidents Joseph Biden and Barack Obama imposed sanctions on the leadership of Srpska, primarily on President Dodik, for daring to defend Republika Srpska and the rights of all its citizens. "It is now legalized, permitted to fight for Republika Srpska", Kovačević told Euronews. According to him, the goal of those who acted against Republika Srpska was to make Srpska and Serbs in BiH disappear. "What matters is that the leadership of Srpska, headed by Dodik, had enough courage to endure every personal sacrifice so that Srpska itself would not be the victim. By doing so, they managed to buy enough time for Republika Srpska to reach this point where the light of justice now shines upon it and to speak about the future of BiH and the region from an equal footing", Kovačević added. He stressed that this is a message that Republika Srpska is a credible partner. Kovačević emphasized that now in power in America are the people who want to talk with Republika Srpska. "With this administration, we have wanted to engage from the very beginning. We supported Donald Trump during his first term, before anyone else dared to do so, and paid a high price for it. Biden and others responded to that through their stance toward the leadershio of Srpska", Kovačević stated. When Trump’s administration came to power, he added, it was logical for Srpska’s leadership to want to talk with those people. "We have been in dialogue with them from the very beginning, we’ve achieved certain progress, and we’re moving forward", he said, noting that there are still many problems in BiH that need to be resolved. Kovačević stressed that none of the leaders of Republika Srpska feel any desire for triumphalism, and added that a time of justice is coming — but that this does not mean it is directed against anyone.
