KNEE SURGERY PERFORMED USING NEW TECHNIQUES
BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ – The surgical team of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic at the Republika Srpska University Clinical Centre /UCC/, together with colleagues from Zagreb, today performed a complex knee operation using modern techniques aimed at ensuring faster patient recovery.
These are techniques that have not previously been applied at UCC. Their advantages include better preservation of knee structures and improved stability in specific situations, where proper indication, technique, and rehabilitation are crucial. Dr. Tomislav Čengić from Zagreb’s Sisters of Charity University Hospital Centre said that the patient underwent a procedure involving minimally invasive surgical techniques, which is of great benefit to the patient. “Instead of a complete knee replacement, in this case only parts of the knee are replaced. I look forward to future cooperation,” Čengić stated. Head of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic at UCC, Dr. Nikola Bojić, said that today’s surgery represents a continuation of the ongoing education programme initiated by UCC leadership long ago, focusing on training young doctors and introducing modern treatment methods. “Everything we are doing will not only be a step forward for Banja Luka but for the entire region. Soon we will also introduce robotic knee prosthesis implantation, something that has not yet been done in this area,” Bojić emphasized. UCC General Director Vlado Đajić told the press that the UCC’s commitment is to develop medical expertise, acquire state-of-the-art equipment, and build new facilities. “With this goal, future cooperation with our colleagues from Zagreb should be two-way, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in orthopedics and traumatology,” Đajić said. Professor Dr. Mislav Jelić from Zagreb’s University Hospital Centre said that he and his colleagues came to Banja Luka to establish cooperation and to help their colleagues and friends introduce new modern techniques developed in the world in recent years. Dr. Davor Pranjić from UCC stated that this cooperation had already begun earlier and would continue, emphasizing that Srpska institutions have provided strong support for developing such collaboration. “This is the beginning of a fruitful future cooperation that must be two-way. Everything we learn is meaningless if we do not pass it on to someone else,” Pranjić noted.
