U.S. ADMINISTRATION HAS TAKEN STEP TOWARD MORE BALANCED APPROACH TO DEVELOPMENTS IN BiH

SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ – The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to BiH, Igor Kalabukhov, told SRNA that the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s decision to lift restrictions imposed on the Republika Srpska leadership represents a step toward a more balanced approach by the U.S. administration to the developments in BiH.

“This is not about sanctions, because sanctions can only be imposed by the UN Security Council. These were restrictions; our position has always been negative toward all such restrictions,” the Russian ambassador noted. He has added that Russia reacts in the same way to the so-called sanctions and restrictions imposed by the EU against Russia. The U.S. Department of the Treasury has lifted sanctions against President Milorad Dodik, the Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović, the Speaker of the Republika Srpska National Assembly Nenad Stevandić, as well as other individuals and companies that were sanctioned during the previous U.S. administration.
