MACUT CONGRATULATES REPUBLIKA SRPSKA DAY WITH MESSAGE OF UNITY AND STABILITY
BELGRADE, JANUARY 8 /SRNA/ – Serbia's Prime Minister Đuro Macut congratulated January 9, the Republika Srpska Day, conveying a message of unity, stability, and responsibility toward future generations.
"On the eve of the Republika Srpska Day, the citizens of Serbia, together with their brothers from Republika Srpska, are paying tribute with deep respect to the fallen soldiers and their families, with a clear message - that such sacrifices should never be repeated," Macut told SRNA. The Serbia's prime minister emphasized that Republika Srpska is a reality grounded in the Dayton Peace Agreement, which brought peace and established a framework for stability. Macut says Serbia believes respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement, in both its letter and spirit, is the only path to lasting peace and security. "Serbia will always stand by Republika Srpska and all of its citizens, regardless of name or religion, as this support is directed toward peace, stability, and dialogue, not against anyone," Macut stressed. He notes that Serbia respects the territorial integrity of BiH and strongly supports the constitutional rights of Republika Srpska within the framework of the Dayton Accords. January 9 is celebrated as the Republika Srpska Day as it was established on that date in 1992 under its original name, the Republic of the Serb People in BiH. Srpska was founded by Serb deputies in the then Assembly of BiH after being outvoted on key issues concerning the survival of Yugoslavia, while members of the other two peoples moved toward secession against the will of the Serbs, who had the status of a constituent people. The name Republic of the Serb People in BiH was used until February 28, 1992, when the first Constitution was proclaimed, at which point it was replaced by the name Srpska Republika of BiH. This name was used until August 12, 1992, when the name Srpska Republika was introduced. In September 1992, this was replaced by the current name - Republika Srpska.
