ŠERANIĆ: MORE THAN BAM 60 MILLION INVESTED IN NEW ONCOLOGY FACILITY
BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 4 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Minister of Health and Social Welfare Alen Šeranić told SRNA that the Government of Republika Srpska has invested more than BAM 60 million in the construction of a new oncology facility, which will provide significantly larger and higher-quality capacities for the treatment of patients with malignant diseases. The official opening is planned for February 13.
"In the new oncology building, which will be part of the University Clinical Centre /UKC/ of Republika Srpska, the Clinic for Hemato-Oncology, Hematology and Oncology will be relocated. We will have two floors dedicated to hematology and oncology day hospitals," Šeranić said. He stated that a hematology department, as well as oncology departments, will be organized, while a palliative care department will be located on a separate floor. "The new facility is highly significant from the standpoint of healthcare needs," Šeranić emphasized. Šeranić also noted that both global and local statistics show that the number of malignant diseases is increasing, making it very important for Republika Srpska to have such a facility in terms of capacity. "It will also be important for coordination with other hospitals regarding the care of patients suffering from malignant diseases, and through that coordination we will be able to respond faster and more effectively to patients' needs," Šeranić stressed. He said that the construction was carried out by the University Clinical Centre of Republika Srpska and described it as a well-planned activity, explaining that after the opening, the completion of the necessary documentation and administrative procedures will follow in order to obtain all permits required for the institution to begin operating. Earlier, SNSD President Milorad Dodik announced that the oncology centre in Banja Luka will be opened on February 13 as part of the Sretenje celebrations.
