CONSTITUENT PEOPLES AND THE HOUSE OF PEOPLES' POSITIONS ENTRENCHED

SARAJEVO, FEBRUARY 5 /SRNA/ – Through decisions on four appeals filed by the DF, the European Court of Human Rights has further entrenched the positions of the constituent peoples and the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, the Zagreb-based Večernji List, BiH edition, reports.

The newspaper notes that, in its ruling, the European Court of Human Rights emphasized that the system of constitutional provisions emerged as a result of the Dayton Peace Agreement continues to remain the foundation of political stability in BiH. According to this system, the existence of a balance among the constituent peoples remains crucial for political peace and the functioning of the country. The article reads that, although the appeals were aimed at attempting changes that would enable greater political influence for Bosniaks as the most numerous people, the European Court of Human Rights confirmed that such changes would represent an attempt to alter the foundations of the political system that has been the only one to provide a framework for peace and post-conflict stability. "It is interesting that the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights confirm the basic premise of the necessity of political division along national lines, in accordance with long-term political processes aimed at maintaining the stability of the country," Večernji List emphasizes.
