A REQUEST WILL BE SUBMITTED FOR SPECIFIC MEDICAL TESTS FOR GENERAL MLADIĆ
BELGRADE, FEBRUARY 10 /SRNA/ - The family and defense team of General Ratko Mladić intend to request medical documentation from the Hague Mechanism concerning certain laboratory tests for the Serbian general, and this is expected to be submitted next week, his son Darko Mladić told SRNA.
Darko Mladić recalled that the general suffers from multiple illnesses, has been bedridden for a long time, and that he spoke with him this morning, noting that his health condition remains unchanged. "Our doctors are preparing a request for specific types of tests that need to be carried out on him so that it becomes clearer exactly what is happening with him, because we are receiving very sparse basic reports about what is being done and which analyses are being performed," Darko Mladić said. He added that he cannot speak in more detail about which tests are involved, but he gave the example that, as far as the laboratory is concerned, the defense and family have not seen that a blood count has been done on the general. "That is basic, meaning we haven't even seen a blood count. Only two or three parameters, and that's all. It's really below basic," Darko Mladić said. He also pointed out that they noticed that doctors who visit the general as independents every two months in the Hague detention hospital receive much more documentation than Serbian doctors do. "In this regard, we are now preparing a motion to the court requesting that this documentation and specific types of tests, which we do not know have been conducted, be provided to us," Darko said. According to him, the family has a list of medications given to the general, but they do not have access to the tests that should confirm why these medications are being administered. "We have information about the therapy he is receiving, assuming it hasn’t been reduced, but we do not know whether he might be receiving anything else," Darko said General Mladić has suffered multiple strokes, has serious cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, neurological damage, as well as kidney problems, which have led to several hospitalizations and various medical and therapeutic procedures, including surgical interventions on his heart and leg. The former Chief of Staff of the Republika Srpska Army, General Ratko Mladić, has been held since 2024 in the detention hospital in The Hague, where he is under palliative care due to his severe health condition. General Mladić was arrested on May 26, 2011, in the village of Lazarevo near Zrenjanin, Serbia. The Hague Tribunal sentenced him to life imprisonment on November 22, 2017, and the verdict was upheld on June 8, 2021, for alleged war crimes committed during the war in BiH from 1992 to 1995.
