ĐOKIĆ: SRPSKA GOVERNMENT STEPPING UP ENERGY TRANSITION
BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 26 /SRNA/ – The Government of Republika Srpska is strongly committed to developing the energy transition sector, particularly the decarbonization process, Republika Srpska Minister of Energy and Mining Petar Đokić said at the opening of the regional renewable energy conference Balkan Solar Summit in Banja Luka.
Đokić said Republika Srpska has adopted the necessary regulations based on European directives. He noted that BiH is often burdened by political relations that slow economic development, especially the introduction of new technologies. "In Republika Srpska, the number of facilities using renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy, has increased significantly. Today, more than 350 megawatts of solar power plants are connected to the grid. The construction of additional small solar power plants is planned," Đokić said in his address at the conference. He added that the implementation of a project to install small solar panels for about 20,000 households will begin this year, with the World Bank as a partner. Đokić emphasized that certain hydropower and wind power projects are also currently being implemented. "Republika Srpska is on a serious path toward decarbonization and the use of renewable energy sources," Đokić stressed. He noted that the transmission network remains an issue in BiH and called on the competent authorities in that sector to be more efficient in resolving grid access problems. Đokić concluded that there is a significant opportunity to transform the energy situation in BiH, but that cooperation and mutual understanding are essential. A two-day regional renewable energy conference, the Balkan Solar Summit, opened today in Banja Luka, focusing on the development of a sustainable energy system and strengthening regional cooperation. Over the two days, the conference is expected to bring together more than 400 experts, industry leaders, investors, and key stakeholders to develop concrete solutions aligned with regional and European standards, positioning the Balkan Solar Summit as a central platform for dialogue on energy transition in the region.
