TREBINJE, MARCH 8 /SRNA/ – The new hospital in Trebinje has successfully performed its first complex examinations and procedures in the field of heart disease, allowing patients from Herzegovina to no longer travel to larger medical centers in Foča and Banja Luka.

Acting Director of the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska /UCC/ Nikola Šobot said that over the weekend, the hospital demonstrated its readiness and functionality for the most demanding cardiovascular procedures, marking a new chapter in the care of heart patients in the Herzegovina region. "In the catheterization lab at the new hospital in Trebinje, we successfully performed the first procedures in diagnostic cardiology, specifically coronary angiography. In addition, non-invasive diagnostics in cardiovascular medicine were also conducted," Šobot said at a press conference. He noted that 24-hour readiness has been established for all patients with acute myocardial infarction, which previously did not exist in this hospital. "This is a very important step not only for Herzegovina but also for Republika Srpska, considering that neither Herceg Novi nor Dubrovnik has this level of readiness, making Trebinje a regional health center," Šobot emphasized. He added that the hospital is equipped at the highest level and congratulated all staff and citizens of Trebinje and Herzegovina for the excellent hospital conditions. Director of the "Sveti Arhiđakon Stefan - 9. Januar" Hospital in Trebinje, Nedeljko Lambeta, announced that starting tomorrow, magnetic resonance diagnostics will also be available to all residents, who can schedule examinations through their family doctors. "Three procedures were performed in the angio-lab yesterday. The patients are stable and are expected to be discharged today," Lambeta said. He added that Herzegovina patients will no longer need to travel to Foča and Banja Luka, as the angio-lab will be available 24 hours a day with interventions performed by doctors from Banja Luka or Belgrade, and in the future, from other centers as well. Lambeta noted that a CT scanner has been in operation at the Trebinje hospital since last week and asked citizens for patience, noting that the hospital's call center is available for scheduling appointments or obtaining information regarding follow-up examinations. The new "Sveti Arhiđakon Stefan – 9. Januar" hospital in Trebinje, which cost over BAM 120 million, is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, covers 41,080 square meters of developed space, and was officially opened on January 5. With more than 20 departments and units, 223 beds, and advanced medical equipment, patients will have access to healthcare at the highest level.
