BANJA LUKA, MARCH 20 /SRNA/ – The Director of the Center for Gender Equality of Republika Srpska Maja Vekić said today in Banja Luka that the panel discussion on women in politics is important for opening an honest conversation about their position.

"We want to assess the progress, identify the challenges, and jointly offer solutions because we believe things can be better," Vekić told reporters at the panel discussion titled "Women in Politics of Republika Srpska from Its Establishment to Today - Can We Do Better?", organized by the Center. The Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women, and economic and political empowerment of women in Serbia Tatjana Macura stated that Serbia is a regional leader when it comes to women's political influence, ranking 22nd in the world, 11th in Europe, and first in the region. "We hope that the experience we bring will be valuable and help Republika Srpska, as well as other countries in the region, improve the position of women, encourage their more active participation in political life, and that together we will make our ancestors proud," said Macura. The panel discussion "Women in Politics of Republika Srpska from Its Establishment to Today - Can We Do Better?", which is currently ongoing, includes participation from the Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović and the president of SNSD Milorad Dodik. It is also attended by the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Savo Minić, ministers in the Government, and representatives of public and political life.
