GRABOVAC: NO JUSTICE FOR SERB VICTIMS IN SIJEKOVAC EVEN AFTER 34 YEARS
BROD, MARCH 24 /SRNA/ - Marko Grabovac, president of the Organization for the Search for Killed Soldiers and Missing Civilians from Brod, said that the Croatian Army left mass graves behind in the Posavina area, and that it is devastating that even after 34 years, there is still no justice for Serb victims in Sijekovac.
"It is unacceptable that there is no justice for Serb victims in Sijekovac near Brod, despite numerous pieces of evidence, statements from surviving witnesses, former Serb detainees, and the existence of mass graves. So far, none of those who ordered or carried out this grave crime have been held accountable, neither in BiH nor in Croatia," Grabovac told SRNA. Grabovac pointed out that it is also devastating that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has never even launched an investigation into the horrific crimes against Serbs in Brod and Derventa in 1992. He stressed that mass graves of Serbs were left behind by the Croatian Army in Brod and throughout the entire Posavina region, some of which have still not been discovered or exhumed, as well as numerous camps for Serbs. "I still have not found the remains of my mother, Rosa Grabovac, who was killed in 1992 in Liješće near Brod, while my brother, Mladen Grabovac, was slaughtered in the health centre in Derventa. I exhumed his remains in 1993 from a mass grave," Grabovac said. The 34th anniversary of the crime against Serb civilians in Sijekovac near Brod will be commemorated on Thursday, March 26. On March 26, 1992, the Croatian Army and members of HOS, together with local Muslim-Croat forces, carried out an armed operation against the Serb civilian population in Sijekovac near Bosanski Brod. On that occasion, they killed nine Serbs, members of the Zečević, Milošević, Trifunović, and Radanović families. The youngest victim was 17, and the oldest was 72 years old. The remains of 126 Serbs have been exhumed from four mass graves in the Sijekovac and Brod area.
