PETROVIĆ: TO UNDERTAKE ENERGY TRANSITION TOGETHER

TREBINJE, MARCH 25 /SRNA/ - The Balkan countries should undertake the transition of the energy sector together, as this will significantly minimize the impact on the sector’s energy independence, Luka Petrović, Director General of Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske /ERS/, said today.

"The goal of the Energy Summit in Trebinje is to produce solutions that will enable a fair transition of the Western Balkans' energy sector," Petrović told reporters after the opening of the SET – Trebinje 2026 Summit. Petrović emphasized that the Energy Summit in Trebinje is one of the most important events of its kind in the Balkans, attended by representatives from regional countries and around the world. He pointed out that energy independence involves building new facilities, energy trading, and supplying electricity to citizens and businesses. "ERS, with the support of the Government of Republika Srpska, implements effective development and investment programs in the energy sector," Petrović said, adding that the company has completed two hydropower plants with a total capacity of 200 megawatts and is ready to implement several other energy projects. Petrović stressed that Republika Srpska is ready to develop renewable energy projects in order to have a surplus of electricity to sell on foreign markets through the local electricity exchange, which he expects to be established by the end of this year. He emphasized that ERS is the most favorable electricity supplier for citizens and businesses in the Balkans.
