34 YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE CRIME AGAINST SERBS IN SIJEKOVAC

BROD, MARCH 26 /SRNA/ - The first mass crime against the Serb population in BiH occurred on this day in 1992 in Sijekovac, a suburban settlement of what was then Bosanski Brod, and was carried out by armed forces from Croatia and Bosniak-Croat paramilitary units from BiH.

In just one hour, they killed nine Serbs, members of the Zečević, Milošević, Trifunović, and Radanović families. The youngest victim was 17, and the oldest was 72. In the days that followed, they killed another 37 Serbs. Jovan Zečević was killed in his home together with his three sons, Milan, Vaso, and Petar, who was a person with special needs. The same fate befell Luka Milošević, who was killed along with his two sons. Mirko Radanović and Sreto Trivić were also killed. The crime occurred even before the armed conflict in BiH began. At that time, Croatia attacked Brod and Sijekovac, where the aggressors burned and destroyed 15 houses and an Orthodox church. Only one person has been finally convicted for the crime in Sijekovac, which demonstrates and proves a judicial failure when it comes to justice for the killed Serbs. The occupation by Croatian forces ended on October 7, 1992, when General Slavko Lisica liberated the area of the Brod municipality through a carefully planned military operation. During the occupation of Brod, a total of 504 people were killed, including 137 civilians. The remains of 126 Serbs were exhumed from four mass graves in the Sijekovac and Brod area.
