NO REASON FOR CONCERN, FLOOD DEFENCE-RELATED INVESTMENTS HAVE PAID OFF

DERVENTA, MARCH 30 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Anđelka Kuzmić has said today in Derventa that residents have no reason for concern and that emergency services are on the ground in high-risk flood areas.

"The situation is under control. We have information from the Republika Srpska Hydrometeorological Institute that the precipitation amount will decrease. Over the past four days we have had twice as much rainfall as the average," Kuzmić said after visiting the area and holding a meeting with Derventa Mayor Igor Žunić. She emphasized that flood defence-related investments have proven effective. "Today, the mayor and I agreed that, in cooperation with other institutions and services, we will carry out the cleaning of drainage canals. Unfortunately, canals are often a problem, sometimes due to human activity. I would like to commend the mayor's team which we have been in contact with over the past few days," Kuzmić said. Derventa Mayor Igor Žunić says that decisions are being made in coordination with the line ministry and the Republika Srpska Waters public enterprise, emphasizing that the situation is stable and that developments in Prnjavor, Teslić and Stanari are being monitored. "I believe that in the coming period we will resolve the minor problems we have. Our services are on the ground. I would like to tell residents there is no reason for any concern. For now, we are not even close to a state of emergency flood defence," Žunić said. He noted that no households are currently at risk. "There is only a problem near the new bridge. We have provided pumps that we will activate if necessary," Žunić said.
