HUMANITARIAN APPEAL LAUNCHED TO SUPPORT CHILDREN OF TRAGICALLY DECEASED PRIEST AND HIS WIFE
BANJA LUKA, APRIL 3 /SRNA/ – A fundraising campaign has been launched to collect financial assistance for the treatment of three minor children of priest Nenad Mitrić and his wife Nedeljka, who were killed in a traffic accident in Novo Selo near Brod.
The campaign was launched on the GoFundMe platform, where more than BAM 200,000 has already been raised in a short time. It was initiated by priest Bojan Banović, parish priest of the Church of Saint Petka in Nashville, Tennessee. More than 1,200 people have donated so far, according to the GoFundMe page. Those wishing to contribute in person can do so at the Cathedral Church in Derventa every day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Donations can also be made via a bank account at Atos Bank, with the recipient listed as the Church Municipality of Osinja, account number 5675702700000761. People in the diaspora can donate via IBAN: AT763699000009145988, account holder BABIC DANIJEL, address 6600 Lechaschau, Austria. Priest Nenad Mitrić and his wife Nedeljka were killed in a traffic accident in Novo Selo near Brod, leaving behind three minor children. The children were transported for treatment to Slavonski Brod, while one has been transferred to the Rebro Clinic in Zagreb. The late priest and his wife will be buried on Sunday, April 5, on Palm Sunday, at the local cemetery in Liješće near Brod. Prior to the funeral, a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon at the Church of Holy Prince Lazar in Pojezna. The Zvornik-Tuzla Eparchy announced that Father Nenad was born on August 29, 1993, in Sremska Mitrovica during wartime circumstances. His parents are from Liješće near Brod, where he completed primary school. He graduated from the "Saint Peter of Dabar Bosnia" Theological School in Foča in 2013, and the same year enrolled at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade, where he graduated in 2019. He was ordained as a deacon on March 20, 2022, in Crkvina, and as a priest on March 27, 2022, in Suvo Polje. On May 1, 2022, he was appointed to the parish in Pojezna, within the Derventa Archpriesthood. He was elevated to the rank of Protosyncellus on August 2, 2025.
