INCIDENTS LEAVE SERB RETURNEES IN VILLAGE OF TRUBAR FEELING UNSAFE

DRVAR, APRIL 15 /SRNA/ – Serb returnees in the village of Trubar are concerned about their survival after migrants broke into the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and robbed several households, and they do not feel safe as former Serb villages have become a migrant route, Drvar Mayor Dušica Runić told SRNA.

Runić said that the village of Trubar today reflects neglect and insecurity for the Serb people, adding that due to recent burglaries, returnees spent the Easter holidays in fear and uncertainty. She stressed that residents in this border and sparsely populated area remain unprotected, while the BiH Border Police cites a lack of personnel and the police shrug their shoulders. “When a problem arises in the Federation, the question of jurisdiction becomes rhetorical - no one is responsible, migrants move freely, and Serb returnees have lost their peaceful sleep,” Runić said. She asked whether there is anyone to protect citizens in that part of the Federation of BiH and appealed to the competent institutions to start doing their job. “There are few returnees, but they are still people. Or, according to the institutions, are they not?” Runić asked. Migrants, returned from the Croatian border, broke into the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Trubar and also burglarized and looted several homes. Around twenty Serb returnees live in the village, and due to these events they spent the Easter holidays in fear and uncertainty. The village was once part of the Drvar municipality, but after the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords it became part of the Bihać municipality.
