BROĆETA AND RODIĆ RAISE CONCERNS OVER SECURITY OF SERB RETURNEES IN TRUBAR
BIHAĆ, APRIL 17 /SRNA/ – Migrant crisis must not become a tool for the silent persecution of Serbs, and the security of Serb returnees in the Una-Sana Canton must be ensured, said Goran Broćeta, delegate in the House of Peoples of the Federation of BiH Parliament, and Aleksandar Rodić, Minister of Justice and Administration of Canton 10, during a visit to the village of Trubar near Bihać.
Broćeta said the situation is alarming after visiting the Serb returnee village of Trubar, where migrants reportedly broke into a church and several households, adding that an urgent response from the competent authorities is required. “It is unacceptable that our people feel unprotected in their homes, while their places of worship and houses are being broken into. We demand that the competent institutions take concrete steps to ensure the safety of Serb returnees who are still on the margins,” Broćeta said. He added that they spoke with local residents about recent incidents and ongoing problems. Minister Rodić stressed that institutional support for Serbs must not be absent, calling on colleagues in the Una-Sana Canton Government and security agencies not to ignore the problems in Trubar. “The migrant crisis must not become a tool for the silent expulsion of the remaining Serbs from this area,” Rodić said. He added that, as a representative of the Serb people, he felt a moral and human obligation to support the residents, describing the scenes they witnessed as devastating. Local residents informed officials that migrants returned from the Croatian border often pass through the village, leaving damage to property, while the village's distance from the center of Bihać further complicates protection and infrastructure issues. In this pre-war Drvar municipality village, which became part of Bihać after the Dayton Peace Accords, only around twenty Serb returnees live today. Due to break-ins at the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and private homes, this year's Easter holidays were marked by fear and uncertainty.
