BANJA LUKA, APRIL 20 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska Minister of Education and Culture Borivoje Golubović said that the exhibition "Press in Bosanska Krajina 1906–1941", opened today at the Archives of Republika Srpska, highlights the fact that the first newspapers in Banja Luka were published 120 years ago.

"In this way, we contribute to preserving the culture of remembrance, because by looking at history we understand how to move forward in the future," Golubović told SRNA. He added that exhibitions like this are of great importance for future generations, as they provide insight into the level of development of culture, education and publishing. Director of the Archives and author of the exhibition Bojan Stojnić said the exhibition was opened to mark the Day of the Archives of Republika Srpska, which began operations on this date 73 years ago. "With this exhibition, we are also marking 120 years since the launch of the first newspaper in Banja Luka, which was Kosta Majkić's `Naš život,`" Stojnić said. He noted that between 1906 and 1941, a total of 87 newspapers and magazines were published in the Bosanska Krajina region, with the majority, 63, issued in the city on the Vrbas River. Stojnić added that the exhibition provides an overview of these periodicals, including their history, content, duration, editorial teams, circulation and other details. "Visitors can see around 50 publications displayed on 30 panels, as well as examples of typewriters from the Austro-Hungarian period and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which journalists once used to write their articles," Stojnić said.
