DARKO MLADIĆ: GENERAL’S HEALTH CONDITION WORSENING

BELGRADE, MAY 6 /SRNA/ – General Ratko Mladić is in an even worse condition today than he was yesterday, his son Darko Mladić told SRNA after visiting him at the detention hospital in The Hague.

BELGRADE, MAY 6 /SRNA/ – General Ratko Mladić is in an even worse condition today than he was yesterday, his son Darko Mladić told SRNA after visiting him at the detention hospital in The Hague.

Darko Mladić stated that today is the family’s patron saint day – Đurđevdan/St. George’s Day, so he visited the general together with his elder son Stefan on that occasion. "My father is aware that today is our patron saint day and he understood that. But today he was not able to say five words," Darko Mladić added. He said that he also spoke today with detention doctors, but that there has been no progress in the preparation of reports by independent doctors, who were engaged by the Hague Mechanism following requests from the defence team and the family for General Mladić to be released for medical treatment in Serbia. "Essentially, there is nothing new. I spoke with a doctor from the detention unit today and received no information. They expect the independent doctors to complete those reports faster, but there are no guarantees," said Darko Mladić, who is returning from The Hague to Belgrade this evening. General Mladić suffered a stroke on April 10, and his health has further deteriorated due to serious neurological, cardiovascular, and nephrological problems. Since 2024, he has been in the detention hospital in The Hague, where he is receiving palliative care. The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague has repeatedly rejected requests for General Mladić to be granted provisional release for medical treatment in Serbia.
