MOSCOW POINTING TO MISTREATMENT OF MLADIĆ AND KARADŽIĆ BEFORE SECURITY COUNCIL IMPORTANT
BELGRADE, MAY 13 /SRNA/ - It is extremely important that Russia's UN Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya pointed out before the UN Security Council the inhumane treatment of General Ratko Mladić by the Hague Mechanism and of the first Republika Srpska President Radovan Karadžić by British authorities, whose lives have been put at risk, political analyst Dragomir Anđelković told SRNA.
"As the high representative is a form of neo-colonial institution, so the Hague Tribunal, i.e. the entire Mechanism connected to The Hague, is a kind of inquisitorial institution, serving the extremely brutal persecution of those who are geopolitically unsuitable. This persecution continues before, during, and after the trial," Anđelković said. He pointed out that the fate of Mladić and Karadžić proves they are still treated like medieval prisoners rather than people held in modern prison facilities. Anđelković stresses that Karadžić and Mladić are literally facing a form of torture and that their lives are being endangered. "It is very important that this issue was raised at the level of the UN Security Council, together with the High Representative issue, because all of this forms a single neo-colonial framework. As the position of the high representative is being abolished or moving toward abolition, it is equally important to open the issue of the fate of Hague detainees, because what is happening to them is terrifying," Anđelković stresses. Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya called on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals to release General Ratko Mladić on humanitarian grounds, warning that otherwise it will bear responsibility for the continued deterioration of his health. He also stated that British authorities, in cooperation with the Mechanism, have created inhumane conditions for Radovan Karadžić in prison.
