MECHANISM MEDICAL RECORDS SHOW GENERAL MLADIĆ SUFFERED MAJOR DAMAGE

BELGRADE, MAY 28 /SRNA/ - Serbian doctors have reviewed the medical documentation of General Ratko Mladić that was delivered from the Hague to his family and defense team, and it clearly shows the extensive damage he suffered as a result of strokes, the general's son, Darko Mladić, told SRNA.

Mladić said Serbian doctors are now preparing their own report based on the documentation. "They are writing it now. The damage shown on the scan we received is extensive, although we still have not received what we requested, an MRI scan, which has much better resolution and can show much more clearly everything that needs to be seen. Still, even the CT scan showed that he suffered major damage", he said. Darko Mladić stressed that doctors in the Hague had also acknowledged that his father suffered a stroke, although they initially claimed there had been none. "When they performed the CT scan on May 2, it showed what had happened on April 10 as well. The problem with CT scans is that they are generally not done immediately after a stroke because they cannot adequately show the damage within the first 24 hours", Mladić said. He added that Livia Pavićević, State Secretary at Serbia's Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, who visited his father and Mićo Stanišić in the Hague, conveyed to him the condition in which she found his father. "She went there to see his condition for herself. She did not go to speak with tribunal officials, but to assess the situation and, in a way, send a message that Serbia is making efforts and has not forgotten them", Mladić said. He added that he had not spoken with his father today, but had two phone conversations with him yesterday lasting 10 to 15 minutes each, noting that communication was largely one-sided because General Mladić speaks very little. General Mladić suffered a stroke on April 10 and another on May 2, after which his health further deteriorated due to serious neurological, cardiovascular and nephrological conditions. Since 2024, he has been held in the detention hospital in the Hague, where he is receiving palliative care. The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in the Hague has repeatedly rejected requests for General Mladić to be granted provisional release for medical treatment in Serbia.
