INSTITUTE OF HISTORICAL SCIENCES BECOMES IMPORTANT RESEARCH CENTER
PALE, JUNE 4 /SRNA/ - The Acting Director of the Institute of Historical Sciences at the University of Istočno Sarajevo Mirjana Lukić has stated today that, despite being established less than three years ago, the institution has achieved significant results in research and publishing and has become an important contributor to preserving the culture of remembrance and the national identity of Republika Srpska.
Following a visit by Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić and Minister of Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education Draga Mastilović, Lukić said the guests were briefed on the Institute's achievements to date, as well as plans for its future operations in the "Mali Dom" facility, which will house the Institute of Historical Sciences. "The Institute of Historical Sciences was established on June 25, 2023, and in a relatively short period has published 18 books, including scholarly monographs, conference proceedings, and collections of documents. At present, an equal number of additional publications are in preparation, some already published and others currently in print," Lukić said. She stressed that the Institute has also organized five international scientific conferences, one of them held in cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Russian History, and the Institute of Slavic Studies. "This confirms our commitment to contributing, through scholarly work and international cooperation, to the preservation of the culture of remembrance and historical memory of the Serb people," Lukić emphasized. Speaking about staffing capacities, she said the Institute employs four young researchers and includes the first and only Ottoman studies specialist in Republika Srpska. "Research into Ottoman archives is of great importance for Serbian history, as these archives contain extensive and valuable material that can contribute to a better understanding of our past," Lukić pointed out.
