DODIK: GLOBAL POWER SHIFT, DECLINING EFFECTIVENESS OF INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

ST. PETERSBURG, JUNE 5 /SRNA/ – SNSD President Milorad Dodik said following the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed participants, that the world is undergoing a major realignment and that multipolarity is based on the fact that Russia, China and the United States will play a different role than they did in the previously dominant unipolar world.

Dodik pointed out that Republika Srpska finds itself in a serious vacuum during the global transition toward a multipolar order, raising questions about how to proceed given that, as a small entity, it should rely on international law, which, he argued, is no longer being respected, particularly by the West. He stressed that one of the challenges of this transition could be the growing weakness of international institutions such as the United Nations. "At the UN, there is already a serious crisis as countries are failing to pay their previously agreed contributions, which is jeopardizing a number of operations around the world", Dodik told media outlets from Republika Srpska in St. Petersburg. He added that it remains an open question whether a multipolar world will be able to develop while ensuring respect for all participants. "We face the question of how we, as a small entity, should act. It is important for us to invoke international law, yet no one respects it anymore, especially the West. We are in a serious vacuum, and this is compounded by the complexity of our position within BiH - an undefined and ineffective state, with fundamentally opposing views on how it can exist," Dodik stressed.
