ONE OF MOST HUMANITARIAN OPERATIONS BEGAN ON THIS DAY; ITS HEROES’ IMAGES DO NOT FADE
BANJA LUKA, JUNE 6 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić said that one of the most humanitarian and significant operations of the Defensive-Patriotic War, the Corridor of Life operation, began on this day, adding that the images of those heroes and his fellow soldiers remain vivid even today.
“With enormous sacrifice, we re-established our connection with the motherland and saved ourselves from isolation and mass suffering,” Minić emphasized. He said that the images of the heroes, his comrades from the Army and Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska and Republika Srpska Krajina never fade, stressing that they defended the right to live in their homeland. “We ended a 42-day blockade and restored hope for life to around 1.5 million people. In this operation alone, 877 soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army, 15 members of the Republika Srpska Interior Ministry, and 17 members of the Republika Srpska Krajina Interior Ministry lost their lives,” Minić recalled. In his post on X, he stated that it is an obligation to preserve Republika Srpska and the memory of the heroes who defended and created it. The military operation Operation Corridor 92 was conducted from June 14 to June 28, 1992, in the Posavina region by forces of the First Krajina Corps, the East Bosnia Corps, and the police of Republika Srpska Krajina, under the command of General Momir Talić. According to data from the Republic Research Centre of War, War Crimes, and Tracing Missing Persons, 877 members of the Republika Srpska Army, 15 members of the Republika Srpska Police, and 17 members of the police of the Republika Srpska Krajina were killed during Operation Corridor 92 The immediate catalyst for the military operation, which is the Republika Srpska Army's most humanitarian wartime achievement, was the death of 12 newborn babies in a Banja Luka maternity hospital due to a lack of medical oxygen.
