SAVIĆ: MOTHERS STILL GIVING BIRTH TO PATRIOTS WHO KNOW HOW TO LOVE AND DEFEND SRPSKA
BIJELJINA, JUNE 7 /SRNA/ – The legacy of Panteri Guard Commander Ljubiša Savić Mauzer belongs not only to his family but also to the history of Republika Srpska, his son Bojan Savić said at the commemoration marking the 26th anniversary of the legendary commander’s assassination.
Bojan Savić proudly stressed that Mauzer’s legacy remains alive in Republika Srpska and that new generations understand how to love and defend the homeland for which its heroes fought. “His legacy does not belong only to the family; it belongs to the history of Republika Srpska. I am pleased that the generations to come may not know every battle that Serb soldiers fought alongside my father, but they know who they were and what Mauzer represented,” Savić told the press. He assessed the mothers are still giving birth to patriots. “He showed us the way and taught us how to defend what the soldiers created during the war. Every time I see a veteran of the Republika Srpska Army, regardless of the unit, not only the Panteri Guard, it is as if I see my father,” Savić said. Speaking at the gathering held in front of Mauzer’s memorial in Bijeljina, at the site where he was assessinated, Savić thanked all those who preserve the tradition and memory of Mauzer and the soldiers. “What we can promise is that we will preserve and continue to build Republika Srpska,” Savić said. He emphasized that 26 years after Mauzer’s assassination, neither the pain nor the pride has diminished, and that he is especially proud that his father instilled a genuine love for the Serb people in him and his brother. “Ljubiša was a man of the people who showed how to love Bijeljina, Semberija, and Republika Srpska,” Savić concluded. Wreaths and flowers were laid at Mauzer’s memorial by war veterans and representatives of political and public life from Semberija and Republika Srpska. Petar Cvijetinović, the head of the Panteri Guard Veterans Association, recalled Mauzer’s distinguished pre-war, wartime, and post-war career, stressing that his comrades continue to point out injustices in society and work to improve their homeland, just as Mauzer did. Cvijetinović reiterated that it is regrettable that Bijeljina still has no streets named after its heroes of the Defensive-Patriotic War.
