ROMIĆ: INAUGURAL HILANDAR DAYS CELEBRATION IN REPUBLIKA SRPSKA THIS YEAR

BANJA LUKA, JUNE 9 /SRNA/ – Marko Romić, Chairperson of the Republika Srpska Government Commission for Hilandar Monastery, announced that the inaugural event 2Hilandar Days in Republika Srpska" will be held this year, dedicated to culture and spirituality.

Romić said the event is planned for September, provided all necessary conditions are met. "These will be days dedicated to our greatest historical and national church site, during which the brotherhood of Hilandar Monastery will visit us," Romić told reporters in Banja Luka following a session of the Commission. He added that the event will give citizens of Republika Srpska an opportunity to watch a film depicting a special moment in the history of the Serbian people. "In 1998, the brotherhood of Hilandar Monastery came to the aid of the then-young Republika Srpska by visiting maternity wards across Srpska and helping newborn children," Romić emphasized. He noted that the event will also feature an exhibition presenting a valuable and rare collection of photographs of Hilandar Monastery. "All of this was initiated two years ago by President Milorad Dodik during his visit to Hilandar Monastery," Romić stressed. Bishop Sava of Marciana stated that the Commission also discussed the next steps in preparing a restoration project for King Milutin's Tower, one of the best-known structures within the monastery complex. "This building is of great importance both for Hilandar Monastery and for the history of the Serbian people. It represents a link between our people in Republika Srpska and Hilandar Monastery," Bishop Sava said. The Commission session was attended by Republika Srpska Minister of the Interior Željko Budimir and SNSD President Milorad Dodik.
