KOVAČEVIĆ: OPPOSITION THAT SOUGHT SRPSKA’S FINANCIAL COLLAPSE WITH MURPHY AND SCHMIDT IS NOW TRYING TO CREATE INSTABILITY AFTER FAILING

BANJA LUKA, JUNE 14 /SRNA/ – Serb deputy to the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Radovan Kovačević stated that opposition representatives from Republika Srpska, together with former U.S. Ambassador Michael Murphy and illegitimate High Representative Christian Schmidt, whose legitimacy in Republika Srpska was recognised only by the opposition, devised a plan for the financial isolation and collapse of Republika Srpska.

“We have completely reliable information that former U.S. Ambassador Michael Murphy, at the initiative and insistence of the opposition from Republika Srpska, led a project aimed at the complete financial isoltion of Republika Srpska and preventing it from any arrangements on the international financial market. “That was not the end of it. The moment Republika Srpska turned to the local financial market through bond issuances, Murphy allegedly threatened local banks in Republika Srpska with the loss of their SWIFT codes, effectively preventing them from conducting business,” Kovačević stressed. He argued that the opposition's objective was clear: to financially isolate and ultimately break Republika Srpska, prevent the payment of pensions, salaries, social benefits, and other obligations, thereby provoke social unrest. He added that, having failed to win elections for twenty years, the opposition's goal was at least to try to seize power in this way, while the objective of Murphy and Schmidt, the executors of the plan, was the complete collapse and disappearance of Republika Srpska. According to Kovačević, the extent to which they had advanced in their plan is best illustrated by statements made by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić during that period, when he said that Republika Srpska Finance Minister Zora Vidović was “tearing her hair out” because the system of financial isolation had reached the point where Republika Srpska was left without a single correspondent bank. “Fortunately, they did not succeed. Murphy and Schmidt have been defeated, and soon the opposition will be defeated once again. Srpska will win!” Kovačević posted on X. He stressed that what is most important for citizens is that, under the latest financial arrangement, Republika Srpska’s public debt will amount to only 33 percent of gross domestic product, well below both the legal limit and the Maastricht criteria, whereas in 2005, when the current opposition was in power, it stood at as much as 55 percent. “What is equally important is that Republika Srpska is financially stable today and is not borrowing to plug budget gaps. On the contrary, it is borrowing in order to develop and strengthen rapidly and vigorously. This will be most evident through the ongoing investment cycle worth BAM 6.6 billion, which will significantly transform and improve every corner and every sector of life in Republika Srpska,” Kovačević said.
