ĐURĐEV: CONVERSATION SHOWED THAT POLITICAL SARAJEVO DOES NOT WANT AGREEMENT, BUT HUMILIATION OF REPUBLIKA SRPSKA AND THE SERB PEOPLE
BELGRADE, JUNE 26 /SRNA/ - Aleksandar Đurđev, president of the Serbian League, said that the content of a phone conversation between President Milorad Dodik and SDA leader Bakir Izetbegović clearly demonstrates the way political Sarajevo treats Republika Srpska and the Serb people in BiH.
"From the conversation, one can clearly see an arrogant, threatening, and exclusionary attitude toward Republika Srpska, with no genuine willingness for dialogue, agreement, or compromise. Instead of a policy of mutual respect, we are witnessing a policy of pressure, imposition, and constant threats," Đurđev said. He stressed that the goal of the policy led by the SDA is to weaken the institutional position of Republika Srpska and reduce the political equality of the Serb people in BiH. "Republika Srpska must therefore preserve and strengthen its institutions, as they are the most important guarantee of its constitutional position and the rights of the Serb people. Any weakening of the institutions of Republika Srpska would also mean a weakening of the position of Serbs west of the Drina," Đurđev said. He said that Serbia, as a signatory to the Dayton Peace Agreement, has both the right and the obligation to consistently monitor the position of Republika Srpska and to advocate respect for its Dayton-defined powers. "Political reality shows that BiH has been functioning for years amid deep internal political disputes and disagreements. Therefore, it is necessary to seek democratic and peaceful solutions that will respect the will of all constituent peoples, without imposition and pressure," Đurđev stated. He concluded that Serbia and Republika Srpska must pursue a responsible and long-term national policy, strengthen their cooperation and relations with all countries that respect international law and the principle of equality among peoples, and that all issues concerning the future of Republika Srpska can be resolved exclusively through peaceful, democratic, and legal means.
