FIRST PERIPHERAL ATHERECTOMY PROCEDURE PERFORMED IN BiH, A MINIMALLY INVASIVE TREATMENT METHOD
BANJA LUKA, JULY 10 /SRNA/ - Doctors at the University Clinical Centre /UCC/ of Republika Srpska have successfully performed peripheral atherectomy procedures on three patients for the first time in BiH, a minimally invasive method to remove plaque from peripheral arteries.
As they pointed out, the UCC continues to introduce the most advanced treatment methods, while Acting Director General Nikola Šobot said that the introduction of this procedure is further confirmation of the continuous development of the largest healthcare institution in Republika Srpska. The UCC explained that peripheral atherectomy is a minimally invasive treatment method for patients with peripheral arterial disease, particularly in cases of severe vascular calcification. "By using a specialised device, atherosclerotic plaques are removed, thereby improving blood flow and creating better conditions for successful endovascular treatment," the UCC said. Šobot said they were proud that peripheral atherectomy, one of the most advanced endovascular procedures for treating peripheral arterial disease, had been successfully performed for the first time in BiH at the UCC. He added that this was the result of continuous investment in physicians' expertise, modern medical equipment and the development of this healthcare institution. "We will continue to invest in the education of healthcare workers, the development of new medical procedures and the procurement of the most modern equipment," Šobot said.
