LINTA: NEVER FORGET BRUTAL CRIMES AGAINST SERBS IN GRAHOVO AND GLAMOČ
BELGRADE, JULY 25 /SRNA/ – Croatian forces committed brutal mass crimes against Serb civilians in Grahovo and Glamoč in July 1995, crimes for which no one has been held accountable, therefore it is everyone's duty to ensure the victims are never forgotten, Miodrag Linta, the head of the Association of Serbs from the Region, said.
He recalled that today 31 years ago, Croatian forces launched Operation Summer '95 aimed at forcing the Serb population to leave the municipalities of Grahovo and Glamoč. "About ten days later, the aggression against Republika Srpska Krajina began, followed by attacks on other municipalities in the western Krajina region of Republika Srpska," Linta said. During Operation Summer '95, Serb homes, businesses and other property were systematically looted, burned and destroyed, along with local infrastructure. "It is our duty never to forget the Serb victims from Grahovo and Glamoč. That is why it is particularly important for Serbia to establish a state institution - a memorial centre dedicated to Serb victims of the 1990s conflicts across the former Yugoslavia, with its headquarters in Belgrade," Linta said. He adds that a memorial centre would be tasked with pursuing sustained efforts to secure recognition of Serb victims within the international community, announced the Association of Serbs from the Region. Linta also noted that Grahovo, Glamoč and Drvar, municipalities with Serb majorities, are part Livno Canton, and that little has been done since the end of the war to rebuild infrastructure, create jobs or establish conditions for normal life. “It is particularly important that the Serbs, regardless of where they now live, retain ownership of their land by registering it in land records and to monitor those records to avid fraudulent registration or unlawful seizure of their property, “ Linta stated.
