FSB THWARTS TERRORIST ATTACK IN BELGOROD, SBU AGENT ARRESTED

MOSCOW, JULY 28 /SRNA/ - Russia's Federal Security Service /FSB/ said it had foiled a terrorist attack in Belgorod targeting an employee of the military-civilian administration of the Kharkiv Region and had detained a 63-year-old agent of the Security Service of Ukraine /SBU/.

According to the FSB, the suspect underwent special training in Kyiv, including setting up covert weapons caches, conducting surveillance, handling explosives, and using concealment techniques. He was tasked with blowing up a car belonging to an official of the Kharkiv Region administration, the FSB said. According to the FSB, he stored components for two improvised explosive devices at his residence before conducting surveillance on the target and transmitting information to SBU officers via Telegram. Criminal proceedings have been initiated on charges of high treason, preparing a terrorist attack, undergoing terrorist training, and illegal possession of explosives. The suspect faces life imprisonment. The FSB reiterated that those who voluntarily inform the authorities or renounce and abandon plans to commit such crimes may be exempt from criminal liability, TASS reported.
