VUJIĆ: FAMILY AND MINISTRY AWAIT HAGUE MECHANISM INSTRUCTIONS ON TRANSFER OF MLADIĆ'S BODY

BELGRADE, AUGUST 27 /SRNA/ — Serbia's Justice Minister Nenad Vujić said in a statement to SRNA that the Ministry of Justice is in contact with the family of General Ratko Mladić regarding the collection and transfer of his body to Serbia.

BELGRADE, AUGUST 27 /SRNA/ — Serbia's Justice Minister Nenad Vujić said in a statement to SRNA that the Ministry of Justice is in contact with the family of General Ratko Mladić regarding the collection and transfer of his body to Serbia.

"The family and we are now waiting for instructions from the Mechanism," Vujić said. The official website of the Hague Mechanism has not yet announced the death of General Ratko Mladić. General Mladić died at a detention hospital in The Hague, Serbia's State Secretary at the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights Lidija Pavićević told SRNA. She said she had received the information from General Mladić's son, Darko Mladić. General Mladić had repeatedly expressed his wish to be buried next to his daughter Ana at the Topčider Cemetery in Belgrade. General Mladić had been staying at a detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he had been bedridden for the past year and a half, while the Hague Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals had ignored requests for him to be released on humanitarian grounds to receive treatment in Serbia. The Serb general suffered several strokes. He had serious cardiovascular conditions, high blood pressure, neurological impairments and kidney problems. He was hospitalized several times as a result and underwent various medical and therapeutic procedures, including surgical interventions on his heart and leg.
