BORA ĐORĐEVIĆ – SYMBOL OF SERBIAN AND YUGOSLAV ROCK
BIJELJINA, SEPTEMBER 3 /SRNA/ - Borisav Đorđević, known as Bora Čorba, a Serbian and Yugoslav rock musician, poet and frontman of the band Riblja Čorba, died on September 4, 2024.
Bora Čorba was one of the symbols of the rock movement among Serbs and throughout the former Yugoslavia. He left an indelible mark on the Serbian and regional music scenes. Known by the nickname Bora Čorba, he was born in Čačak on November 1, 1952. He was the lead vocalist and lyricist of Riblja Čorba from the band’s founding in 1978. Before that, he was a member of the bands Suncokreti and Rani Mraz. With an extraordinary talent for songwriting, he was able to express even the deepest emotions in simple language. The popularity of Riblja Čorba was built on provocative, socially oriented songs, and Bora became one of the most controversial musicians in Yugoslavia. Following the release of the album Koza nostra in 1990, Đorđević was accused of “insulting the working class of Yugoslavia,” but the charges were dismissed. Among Riblja Čorba’s timeless albums are Kost u grlu, Mrtva priroda, Istina, Ujed za dušu, Labudova pesma, Trilogija… Bora will be remembered for his distinctive performances of songs such as Lutka sa naslovne strane, Dobro jutro, Kad padne noć, Ostani đubre do kraja, Dva dinara, druže, Kad sam bio mlad, Kad hodaš, Pogledaj dom svoj, anđele, Al Kapone, Avionu slomiću ti krila, Hoću, majko, hoću, Jedino moje, Ljubav ovde više ne stanuje… Bora Đorđević was the recipient of the Ivo Andrić Academy Award for his poetry collection Pusto ostrvo /Desert Island/. In May this year, it was decided that the cultural centre in Čačak would henceforth be named after the legendary Yugoslav and Serbian rock musician Bora Đorđević Čorba. The institution’s official name will therefore be Bora Đorđević.
