XI: CHINA AND THE US HAVE A HISTORIC RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMANITY’S PROGRESS

WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 24 /SRNA/ - Chinese President Xi Jinping said that, in the face of changes in the world, China and the United States, as two major countries, bear a historic responsibility for advancing the development and progress of humanity.

“China and the United States are great countries, and the Chinese and American peoples are great peoples. I have come to the United States at the invitation of US President Donald Trump to foster our friendship, expand cooperation, and promote the well-being of the peoples of our two countries. During President Trump’s visit to China this year, we agreed to build a constructive and strategically stable relationship between China and the United States. This has received broad support from the peoples of both countries and the international community,” Xi said in his address at the White House. He said that China and the United States have different national circumstances, but that through open, in-depth and sustained dialogue they can enhance mutual understanding, seek common ground while accepting their differences, and build mutual trust. “We can encourage the relevant ministries and institutions of the two countries in the areas of diplomacy, economy and trade, finance and law enforcement, as well as those responsible for strengthening cultural cooperation, to enhance communication and support expanded exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries. We must cooperate sincerely. The interests of China and the United States are deeply intertwined, and there is broad scope for cooperation. China’s doors to the world are always wide open. We welcome US companies to invest and do business in China, and we hope that the US side will treat Chinese companies fairly,” Xi said. He added that China and the United States are major powers in the field of artificial intelligence. “We have the ability and the responsibility to develop and manage artificial intelligence properly, to ensure that its development always remains under human control and serves the well-being of people,” the Chinese president said. Xi said that China and the United States should not shy away from talking about competition, but that such competition should be healthy and subject to clear boundaries. It should be like a race in which one side seeks to catch up with and overtake the other, rather than a contest in which one side wins and the other loses. He reminded that during the Second World War, China and the United States fought side by side against fascist aggression, China Media Group reported. “The Chinese people will not forget that history, and neither have the American people forgotten it. The hope for China-US relations lies with the peoples, and the future lies with the younger generation. Giant pandas are ambassadors of friendship between the Chinese and American peoples. Today, I would like to share some good news: in a few days, giant pandas ‘Ping Ping’ and ‘Fu Shuang’ will move into the Atlanta Zoo and meet the American people,” Xi said. He stressed that achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again are not mutually exclusive goals. “Let us uphold a spirit of commitment to our peoples, demonstrate historical initiative, continuously strengthen friendship between the Chinese and American peoples, and work together to build a better world!” Xi said.
