PROTESTERS BREAK WINDOWS, TRY TO ENTER ASSEMBLY BUILDING

BELGRADE, OCTOBER 5 /SRNA/ - Albanian protesters tried to storm the assembly building in Priština today, breaking through security barriers, smashing office windows and setting off pyrotechnics.

Protesters also used pyrotechnic devices near the assembly building during a plenary session at which the first item on the agenda was a draft law amending the law on the Specialist Chambers. The legislation provides for maximum sentences of 15 years in proceedings before the court. Clashes broke out between protesters and Priština police during the vote on the draft, which was adopted with the support of 91 lawmakers, Kosovo Online reported. A group of protesters has been demonstrating for days over the sentencing of leaders of the terrorist KLA, who were handed a combined 81 years in prison by a court in The Hague for war crimes.
