BANJAC: CONSTRUCTION OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE DISPOSAL SITE MUST BE PREVENTED, WE ARE ALL AT RISK
NOVI GRAD, APRIL 9 /SRNA/ – Kozarska Dubica Municipal Assembly Speaker Miloš Banjac has said today at the session of the Novi Grad Municipal Assembly that all local communities in the Una River basin would be endangered if a radioactive waste disposal site were built at Trgovska Gora, which must be prevented through joint work with institutions.
Banjac stressed that Croatia's intent is also causing concern among the residents in Kozarska Dubica too, which is why it is important for all levels of government to provide maximum support to institutions and the Expert Team. "Croatia's decision to store nuclear waste at Trgovska Gora represents a direct threat to our municipality, as well as to other local communities in the Una River basin, which is a protected area and a major natural and tourism potential," Banjac said. He emphasized that the Municipality of Kozarska Dubica has been involved from the very beginning in activities through which the institutions of Republika Srpska and BiH are trying to prevent the intention to dispose of nuclear waste at Trgovska Gora. A thematic session of the Novi Grad Municipal Assembly is currently underway, where councilors are reviewing information from the local community and the Expert Team regarding Croatia’s activities related to the construction of a radioactive waste storage facility at Trgovska Gora.
