TUŠEVLJAK: CRIME DOES NOT FALL UNDER STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS, AND JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED ONE DAY

ISTOČNO NOVO SARAJEVO, MAY 2 /SRNA/ - Crime does not fall under the statute of limitations; although the judiciary in BiH has not done its part of the job for 34 years in the case of Dobrovoljačka Street and the attack on the JNA convoy that was withdrawing, justice must eventually be served, Dragiša Tuševljak, President of the Istočno Novo Sarajevo Veterans' Organization, told SRNA.

Tuševljak said that, unfortunately, even 34 years after the crime in Dobrovoljačka Street in Sarajevo, no one has been prosecuted, but that there is hope that the time will come for that as well. “What is important is that we have prepared cases for each of those who committed crimes against Serbs,” Tuševljak emphasized. He said that the most difficult days at the beginning of the Defensive-Patriotic War were May 2 and 3, 1992, when a terrible crime was committed in Dobrovoljačka Street against members of the JNA, where unarmed individuals were attacked during their withdrawal from the Second Military District Command. He emphasized that, so far, the judiciary in BiH has not done its job, and that this is not the only case where those responsible have not been brought to justice, mentioning also the Tuzla convoy and other crimes committed against Serbs. According to him, only Serbs are being prosecuted, which is reflected in the total number of years of sentences; for crimes committed by Bosniaks across BiH, such as the burning of Serb villages and the killing of civilians, very few have been prosecuted. “When you see everything that is happening - desecration of Serbian monuments and holy sites, the judiciary of BiH is sending a bad message, but we will endure all of this,” said Tuševljak. He expressed hope that the judiciary in BiH will do its part and that justice will reach everyone, including those who ordered the firing on JNA members and those who carried it out. The 34th anniversary of the crime against JNA members in Dobrovoljačka Street, where they were attacked by Muslim paramilitary units, will be marked tomorrow in Istočno Sarajevo and Sarajevo.
