UN SECURITY COUNCIL SESSION OPPORTUNITY TO PROTECT THE DAYTON ACCORDS
SARAJEVO, MAY 11 /SRNA/ - Council of Ministers Deputy Chair Staša Košarac says the upcoming session of the UN Security Council represents an important opportunity to finally reconsider the interventionism of the OHR and the status of Christian Schmidt, to protect the Dayton Peace Agreement, and to put an end to the illegitimate, destabilizing, and autocratic rule of an unappointed foreigner.
"The key fact, which no one can dispute, is that Schmidt was never appointed by a decision of the UN Security Council, nor was he proposed by the signatories of the Dayton Peace Agreement," Košarac told SRNA. He noted that Schmidt lacks the legitimacy of a high representative and that everything he has done in BiH so far has been contrary to international law and the Dayton Peace Agreement. "Schmidt is an unappointed foreigner who usurped the position in the OHR and whose actions have further deepened political crises and raised tensions in BiH," Košarac pointed out. He assessed that Schmidt’s decisions, made without a democratic or legal basis, represent a direct attack on the constitutional order, the rule of law, and democratic institutions in the country. "He imposed dozens of unlawful and politically motivated decisions that severely disrupted the balance established by the Dayton Peace Agreement, with the clear aim of centralizing BiH and weakening the constitutional position of Republika Srpska," Košarac recalled. He says that the Republika Srpska leadership has a clear and consistent position - the relations in BiH cannot be regulated by decrees issued by an unappointed foreigner, but exclusively through agreement between the two entities and the three constituent peoples in accordance with the Constitution and the Dayton Peace Agreement. "Thefore we expect the UN Security Council to stand in defence of international law and the Dayton Peace Agreement, and to end the illegitimate, destabilizing, and autocratic rule of an unappointed foreigner in BiH," Košarac stressed. He says that all decisions and decrees adopted without a legal term must be annulled in order for BiH to return to the framework of constitutionality, legality, and genuine democratic dialogue between the two entities and the three constituent peoples.
