TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS KEY TO DEVELOPMENT AND MODERNISATION
BEIJING, AUGUST 6 /SRNA/ - Technological innovations play a key role in China's comprehensive modernisation process, the China Media Group reported.
Achieving a high level of scientific and technological self-reliance and building a strong science and technology nation by 2035 are strategic goals set at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. With nine years remaining until this deadline, advancing China's modernisation requires technological innovation as a key pillar of support and a direction for development, the article said. The key to China's modernisation lies in technological modernisation, and the period of the 15th Five-Year Plan represents a crucial stage in building a strong science and technology nation. Since the beginning of this year, as preparations have been made for the launch of the 15th Five-Year Plan, Secretary General of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping has made a series of important decisions in the field of technological innovation, accelerating the advancement of scientific and technological self-reliance and strengthening it at a high level. The first collective study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee was devoted to planning for the future and developing future industries. Xi visited the Yizhuang National Information Innovation Park in Beijing, where he was briefed in detail on the latest achievements in artificial intelligence, robotics and other technological sectors. A symposium dedicated to strengthening fundamental research was held in Shanghai at the end of April. It was the first major meeting of the CPC Central Committee devoted to a science and technology issue in the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan. The first three events demonstrate the importance Xi Jinping's development plans attach to technological innovation, as well as its key role in China's comprehensive modernisation process. CALL FOR PROGRESS ISSUED AT TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE On July 8, a major science and technology event was held to mark the beginning of the first year of the 15th Five-Year Plan. The event included the National Science and Technology Awards Conference, the Conference of Members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 11th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology. The event was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and brought together leading figures from China's scientific and technological community. On that occasion, Xi Jinping presented awards to academicians Chen Lichuan and Ben De, recipients of the 2025 National Science and Technology Awards. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC held in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has placed technological innovation at the centre of the modernisation process, leading to historic achievements and major transformations in China's scientific and technological sector. China is rapidly transforming from a global participant and user of technology into one of its pioneers and leaders, becoming one of the fastest-growing innovation economies. At the event on July 8, Xi Jinping laid out clear guidelines for implementing the CPC Central Committee's plans for scientific and technological development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, providing important guidance for building a strong science and technology nation. IMPORTANT CONFERENCE IN SHANGHAI UPHOLDS THE CHINESE SPIRIT The World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the meeting on global AI governance were held in Shanghai from July 17 to July 20. Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered a keynote speech outlining China's position on advancing global AI development and governance, pointing out directions and approaches to promoting its positive development. "China believes that all countries should support a people-centred development philosophy, transform artificial intelligence into an important driving force for promoting common prosperity and safeguarding shared security, and work together to build a fair and reasonable global AI governance system," he said. Thanks to the efforts of all parties, the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization was officially established in Shanghai, marking an important milestone in the history of AI development. At the opening of the event, Xi announced major initiatives to support the global development of artificial intelligence, highlighting China's responsibility as a major power.
