CVIJANOVIĆ: ABUSE OF UN SECURITY COUNCIL AND MANIPULATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW ARE AT PLAY

GRADIŠKA, NOVEMBER 2 /SRNA/ - Serb BiH Presidency member Željka Cvijanović has said that the procedure for appointing a high representative is clearly prescribed by the Dayton Peace Agreement and that a great abuse of the UN Security Council and a huge manipulation of international law are at play.

Cvijanović has said that it is an absolute lie that the UN has no role in the appointment of a high representative, as claimed by the American representative in the Security Council, and pointed out that the twisted thesis will not be accepted because it does not correspond to what the Dayton Peace Agreement says. "They are guided by the saying that when you tell a lie a million times, it will become the truth. I assume that the American ambassador to the UN knows that the Dayton Agreement was created in his country and that it says who are the parties that propose the high representative and that he is confirmed by a relevant Resolution in the UN Security Council," explained Cvijanović. She has said that the rights of the parties prescribed by the Dayton Agreement were usurped by the Peace Implementation Council /PIC/. "They proposed names, but even then all the high representatives were confirmed by a relevant Resolution in the UN Security Council, after which it was considered that they received the necessary capacity and legality to be able to act as high representatives," Cvijanović told reporters in Gradiška. Christian Schmidt, Cvijanović emphasized, did not receive such verification. "The very fact that the report of a man who did not receive such verification in the UN Security Council is submitted shows how far all this has gone," said Cvjanović. Cvijanović said that, by putting the international agreement into the function of daily political fights, they are trying to make BiH a state that was not envisioned by the Dayton Peace Agreement. "Manipulations, lies, abuse of the UN Security Council. We never claimed that the Security Council appoints someone, but we claimed that the parties propose a high representative, and he is verified by the UN Security Council, which is what is written in the Dayton Agreement," Cvijanović said.
