CORRIDOR BREAKTHROUGH BROUGHT SALVATION TO SERB PEOPLE IN WESTERN SRPSKA
MILIĆI, JUNE 22 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Prime Minister Radovan Višković tells SRNA that the 1992 corridor breakthrough, which connected the western and eastern Srpska and opened the way to Serbia, was a historic victory of the Republika Srpska Army as it brought salvation to the Serb people in Krajina who were in a complete blockade.
Višković pointed out that the operation is not called the "Corridor of Life" by chance, as it saved nearly one and a half million Serbs who were completely blocked in western Republika Srpska and Republika Srpska Krajina. He reminded that before the breakthrough, Srpska paid the most expensive price, because the direct reason for this operation was the death of 12 babies in the Banja Luka maternity hospital due to lack of oxygen. Višković noted that the same people who prevented transport of oxygen to the Clinical Centre in Banja Luka are still putting pressure on Republika Srpska today. According to him, the vilans prevented those children from experiencing the joy of life, which is why the decision was made to break through. "The decision of the Republika Srpska Army /RSA/ to free that passage is something that is studied today at military academies, it is RSA’s magnificent victory that brought salvation to the Serb people who were under blockade. We will celebrate that magnificent victory as long as the Serb people exists in this area." Višković said. Duga Njiva near Modriča, will tomorrow mark 32 years since the corridor breakthrough through Posavina on St. Vitus Day in 1992, when 855 soldiers of the Republika Srpska Army and 14 members of the Srpska Interior Ministry lost their lives. The military operation "Corridor 92" lasted from June 14 to 28 in the area of Posavina and connected western Srpska and Republika Srpska Krajina with other parts of Srpska and Serbia. This operation ended the 42-day land and air blockade of western Srpska and Republika Srpska Krajina.
