LALIĆ: UNCONTROLLED MOVEMENT OF MIGRANTS IS SECURITY THREAT

BANJA LUKA, AUGUST 20 /SRNA/ - Professor Velibor Lalić from the Faculty of Security Sciences in Banja Luka told SRNA that the incident in Nevesinje demonstrates that the uncontrolled movement of migrants represents a security threat and that it is necessary to reassess migration policies, specifically to address uncontrolled migration.

"The migration problem is a particular security threat in that part of the BiH border, in Republika Srpska, and especially in Nevesinje, where a large number of migrants cross the border without control," Lalić said. He emphasized the need for more adequate measures to protect the border and manage migration, stressing that this is not only a problem for Srpska or BiH, but a global issue. "Such problems are more pronounced in this region. It is necessary to reassess the policy on combating illegal migration and to strengthen capacities to address it," Lalić stated. In the village of Zovi Do, in the municipality of Nevesinje, the police neutralized an individual last night who, while shouting "Allahu Akbar," shot at police officers who had surrounded the house where he was located. This individual, who used two types of automatic and semi-automatic weapons and, at one point, threw a hand grenade at police, had previously ignored police calls to surrender.
