MOSCOW, MAY 31 /SRNA/ – Uglješa Stanojević, chief physician of the Kursk Oncology Scientific and Clinical Center "Ostroverhov", originally from Čečava near Teslić, has been decorated by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the title of Distinguished Physician of the Russian Federation.

Stanojević graduated from the Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy. He completed his specialization and doctoral dissertation in Moscow, where he worked until 2020, when he took over as head of the Kursk Oncology Center. He is married and has two children. "Now, as a citizen of Russia, the land of opportunity, and a resident of the Kursk region, I would like to express my deep gratitude to you for everything you do, for your inexhaustible love for people, and for your uncompromising fight against evil," said Stanojević while thanking Putin for the decoration. He added that President Putin is held in great love and respect in the Kursk region. "I wasn’t born in Russia; I was born in the former Yugoslavia, which is now the territory of Republika Srpska. Today, I live and work in the Kursk region. And honestly, it would be extremely difficult to say in which part of the country or the world you are held in higher regard, with more love, more respect, and more gratitude," emphasized Stanojević. Dr. Stanojević has visited the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska (UCC) in Banja Luka on several occasions. He led a team of Russian surgeons in August 2023, when a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer was performed at the UCC. He also led a team of Russian surgeons from the Kursk Oncology Center in November of the same year, when a minimally invasive laparoscopic esophageal surgery was performed at the UCC for the first time. In February 2024, he again visited Banja Luka, accompanied by the distinguished physician from the United States, Dr. Igor Milošević. Their hosts were once again the UCC medical team, led by Dr. Goran Janjić, head of the Department of Laparoscopic Surgery at the Clinic for General and Abdominal Surgery. After being personally decorated by Putin, the UCC congratulated Dr. Stanojević on its official Facebook page on this exceptional honor. As stated, this recognition represents not only a personal achievement for Dr. Stanojević, but also a major acknowledgment of the medical community of Republika Srpska. The UCC emphasized that this title confirms Dr. Uglješa Stanojević’s outstanding contribution to medicine and international cooperation. "As chief physician of the Oncology Research and Clinical Center in Kursk, Dr. Stanojević demonstrates exceptional expertise, dedication, and humanity on a daily basis," stated the UCC’s post. The mayor of Teslić, Milan Miličević, who is also a physician, extended his congratulations to Dr. Stanojević.
