IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR THE REGULATORY AGENCY FOR RADIATION AND NUCLEAR SAFETY TO IGNORE THE TRGOVSKA GORA ISSUE

SARAJEVO, AUGUST 16 /SRNA/ - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Staša Košarac, stated that he will not accept the proposed 2026 work program of the Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety of BiH, which does not mention the issue of constructing the disputed radioactive waste disposal facility at Trgovska Gora.
“It is unacceptable for any relevant institution to exclude itself, on its initiative and in a highly irresponsible manner, from our joint fight against Croatia’s intention to dispose of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel in our backyard,” Košarac emphasized. Košarac emphasized that they cannot count on his support or vote as long as Trgovska Gora, one of the most important priorities, is not included in the Agency’s work program, and called on all ministers in the Council of Ministers to take the same stance. “To be completely open and clear - I will never support such a work program of the Agency, either as a minister or as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers,” Košarac said on Instagram. He appealed to the Agency’s leadership to prioritize, seriously and responsibly, addressing the issue of constructing the Trgovska Gora radioactive waste disposal facility, in accordance with its mandate. According to him, it is unacceptable for the Agency to adopt an indifferent attitude toward this pressing problem, which threatens the lives of 250,000 people and the environment. Košarac stated that Trgovska Gora must be a priority for all relevant institutions in BiH, as mandated by the conclusions of the Presidency of BiH, the Council of Ministers, and all others. He said that this issue is not something to be decided arbitrarily, but a legal obligation of all relevant institutions. “The health of the people and the protection of the environment must remain a priority for all of us,” Košarac said.
