EGIĆ: INSTITUTIONS OF REPUBLIKA SRPSKA ARE GUARDIANS OF TRUTH ABOUT SUFFERING OF SERBS

MRKONJIĆ GRAD, OCTOBER 10 /SRNA/ – The institutions of Republika Srpska are the guardians of truth about the crimes committed against the Serb people in 13 Western Krajina municipalities in 1995, although justice has not been served for this or many other crimes against Serbs, said Minister of Labor and Veterans’ and Disability Protection Danijel Egić.
“Despite all the evidence and testimonies, no one has been convicted for this crime, just as there have been no convictions for many others, because justice in BiH has never been—and never will be—on the side of Serb victims,” Egić said at a spiritual academy in Mrkonjić Grad marking 30 years since the Croatian-Muslim crime against Serbs. Egić emphasized that this crime, committed during the aggression, was not merely a military act, but an attempt to erase the Serb people from their ancestral land, from a territory where they had lived for centuries. “The mass grave in Mrkonjić Grad, from which the remains of 181 victims were exhumed, loudly testifies to the evil that was committed here,” said Egić. He stated that those gathered in Mrkonjić Grad today came together in both sorrow and pride. “In sorrow, because we remember the horrific crimes; and in pride, because despite all the suffering, persecution, and injustice, we have managed to preserve our name, identity, and Republika Srpska. Those days taught us collectively that freedom has no price—it is paid dearly, through sacrifice, suffering, and human lives—and that it must be preserved through remembrance,” Egić stressed. According to him, it is everyone’s duty to ensure that the suffering of the Serb people is recorded and documented—not out of hatred, but for the sake of peace. “Republika Srpska will continue to support all efforts to document these crimes, and our institutions will remain the guardians of the truth that our children must know, not in order to hate, but to love freedom and their homeland,” Egić said. Before the spiritual academy, Minister Egić laid a wreath today at the central monument to fallen soldiers on Serbian Army Square in Mrkonjić Grad, where a memorial service was held. Today, Mrkonjić Grad has marked 30 years since the aggression against 13 Western Krajina municipalities and the crimes against 2,214 Serb civilians and soldiers committed by members of the Croatian Armed Forces and the so-called Army of BiH, for which, despite abundant evidence, no one has been adequately punished.
