KOVAČEVIĆ TO ZVIZDIĆ: AND WHEN YOU THREATEN PROTESTS IF THERE’S ACQUITTAL, THAT’S SUPPORT FOR JUDICIAL INDEPENDENCE?!
SARAJEVO, NOVEMBER 4 /SRNA/ – Serb delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Radovan Kovačević told Denis Zvizdić, a representative in the House of Representatives from the Narod i pravda /People and Justice/ party, that it is high time he realized that there is "a new aga in town".
Commenting on Zvizdić's statement that the SNSD is "exerting unacceptable pressure on the Constitutional Court of BiH," which he described as an independent institution, Kovačević replied: "And when the president of your party openly threatens to organize mass protests in the event of an acquittal, that is probably supporting judicial independence?!" "What hypocrisy! Get serious for once. Or, in your own words, it's high time you realized that `there's a new aga in town,`" Kovačević wrote on X. He emphasized that the SNSD is not exerting any pressure whatsoever, not even having any expectations. "We just want the process to conclude so that we can move forward toward international instances. Although, it is quite telling that you are bothered even by the mere mentioning of notorious constitutional and legal facts," Kovačević added. The incomplete Constitutional Court of BiH was expected to hold an extraordinary session today to decide on the appeal submitted by the defense of President Milorad Dodik against the verdict of the Court of BiH. The Court of BiH sentenced President Dodik to one year in prison and imposed a six-year ban on political activity for "failing to comply with the decisions of Christian Schmidt" - specifically, for signing a decree promulgating a law adopted by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska. Dodik was prosecuted for a criminal offense introduced into the BiH Criminal Code on the basis of a decision by Schmidt.
